During the mid-1800's, quarrying slates was one of the leading industries of the Peach Bottom region of Pennsylvania and Harford County, MD. Welsh immigrants used their skills and craftsmanship to produce some of the finest slate in the world in order to shelter the roofs of their homes. Many of these buildings still exist today. The Slate Lady hopes to preserve a little piece of history in her art, which once adorned the roofs of the homes and barns of York, Lancaster County, PA, and Harford County, MD.
